PUBLIC WORKS - INSTALLED ART AND SCIENCE EXHIBITS
COMMISSIONED and in PERMANENT COLLECTIONS

LIAISON - Chimp Finder (©2005/2007) Saint Louis Zoo, St. Louis, Missouri - Installed 2005 – 2009
An outside Interactive Multimedia Installation Exhibit with live chimpanzees, Chimp Finder is a liaison between live Chimpanzees and the public. Chimps like people, live in groups and have complex social and political orders. These intelligent animals are in danger of extinction.  This outdoor exhibit, Chimp Finder, is designed to let visitors glimpse into the chimp world and connect with individual chimps through imagery and a sophisticated electronic observation scope, conceived and developed collaboratively by JoAnn Gillerman and Rob Terry.  Chimp Finder recognizes individual chimps in the field, and lets visitors interactively access information on particular chimps, and the politics and social order of the chimp group. “Chimp Finder” at the Saint Louis Zoo is the first of its kind and was designed to raise conservation awareness of the great apes.

Shadow Dance: Interactive Eclipse Exhibit  (©2001), Chabot Space & Science Center, Oakland, CA - Installed 2001 - 2005
Designed with custom software for multiple
flat panel displays, floor sensors, computers, and video, “Shadow Dance: Eclipse Exhibit” is an interactive, multi-user, multi-channel, multi-lingual, floor-sensor driven environment encouraging the audience to create an eclipse by aligning the Sun, Moon and Earth on an arc of 12 high-resolution flat panel displays. By simply moving around the installation space stepping on floor pictures, the audience collaboratively and interactively creates an eclipse (lunar or solar), and subsequently explores visual/aural eclipse information: science, mythologies (visual and sound creation), art, history, and popular culture. Controlling layers of graphics, animations, video, imagery, environmental and multi-cultural sounds, and narration let the audience play the environment. (* In the Shadow)

Innovation Forum (©1999/2000) Multimedia Exhibit, The Tech Museum of Innovation, San Jose, CA - Installed 1999 - Present
For multiple displays, computers, cameras, mic, and using custom softwa this multimedia installation creates an interactive forum in which to provocatively dialogue about innovations and technology. Through soft whispering, it solicits interaction, and includes real-time recording and playback of video/audio comments from its audience.  Through short interactively accessed video clips, a diverse, "virtual" panel of distinguished thinkers discuss a wide range of issues concerning innovation and technology, how they affect our lives, new explorations and ethical implications. Museum Visitors are encouraged to respond to these issues by recording their personal comments and listening to other visitors’ comments, all of which become part of the continually evolving Innovation Forum Exhibit. Discussion topics include cloning, patenting of life forms, genetic engineering, ethics, computer technologies, ubiquitous computers, global access to new technologies, forecasting, new explorations, cyberspace as community, and more.
